A+ Research Project

A step-by-step guide to the library research process. Suitable for any topic or writing style - MLA or APA.

GO!!!  You have read, highlighted, sorted and sifted the information.  You have drafted a thesis statement, and have organized an outline. You have written your first draft, revised and clarified, and have supported your thesis.  You have planned ahead and organized your time.  You took a day to clear your head, and revised your first draft.  Do you think your ready to to go?

TIME MANAGEMENT:  Ready to submit?

Make sure you do a spell check and a grammar check.  Academic writing frowns on using contractions - spell out "would not have" instead of using "wouldn't."  Grammar check should catch most of the improper synonym use, like "there, their, and they're" or "hear vs here" or "weather vs whether."

Pull out your syllabus with your research project instructions (most faculty are using an objective checklist) and make sure that you have satisfied the basic requirements. Check for details that may cost you points:

  • page numbers and headers,
  • margins
  • double-spacing
  • hanging indents
  • properly formatted citations or references
  • minimum resources used and the correct type - peer reviewed journal article, credible website, books, etc.
  • parenthetical citations, quotations, etc.
  • style manual followed-- vs

Complete your final corrections, save it, and print a clean copy.  Turn it in on time!

Congratulations!!!  You did it!!!
